The APEX II QUAZAR features the IμS™ X-ray Source, a 30 W microfocus sealed tube with high brilliance and high-performance focusing Quazar™ multilayer optics, the latest type of Montel mirror. The combination of source and optics exceeds the performance of traditional 5.4 kW rotating anode sources. Unlike rotating anodes, the IμS has no moving parts and does not require water cooling. It has a very long lifetime, does not require maintenance, is extremely stable, easy to replace, and has a low cost of ownership.
